New Coach For the Suns

News has been spreading that the current head coach of the Phoenix Suns, Terry Porter, will be relieved of his duties as the head coach. He has only been coaching the Phoenix Suns for four months before being fired. His slow-paced offense and defensive mindset is not a good fit for the Phoenix Suns team. They don’t seem to respond well to his coaching style.
The Phoenix Suns, when the team was coached by Mike D’Antoni, was well-known for its run and gun style of play. It made the Suns very difficult to play against. The team was very successful. Now, the Suns have a record of 28-23, going only 3 games over .500.
The new head coach of the Phoenix Suns will now be Assistant Coach Alvin Gentry. Alvin Gentry has been in the league for around two decades now. He has been named interim head coach of two teams in the past and was head coach of the Clippers from 2000 to 2003. Alvin Gentry is known for his uptempo style of coaching. This will give the Suns a taste once again of how it was when Mike D’Antoni was coaching the team.
This move by the Phoenix organization, in my opinion, will benefit the team. The slow-paced game obviously does not favor the Suns’ players especially with the addition of shooting guard Jason Richardson. The uptempo style of play will fit perfectly with the Suns players. The Suns’ players will probably have to adjust to their new system with Alvin Gentry taking over, although they should still be familiar with it because of Mike D’Antoni. Look for the Phoenix Suns to win more games in the second half of the season.
