Bulls Look Formidable After the Trade; Acquire Miller and Salmons from Kings

NBA Game 2008

Don’t look now but it looks like there is life after Jordan and Pippen. After a mega-blockbuster trade, it looks like the Chicago Bulls have filled up each critical position that they were lacking. Although it looks like they traded away a promising star in Andres Nocioni, the deal was all about experience and the future.

Of course we are talking about whom the Bulls got; Brad Miller and John Salmons. Miller is a former NBA All-Star that adds toughness in the paint. Although out of commission with a hip injury, the entry of John Salmons provides additional scoring sock to the young Chicago Bulls.

The Chicago Bulls acquired center Brad Miller and John Salmons from the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday for four players, including forwards Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni.

Sacramento also got Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons in the deal, but immediately traded Ruffin to the Portland Trail Blazers for forward Ike Diogu and cash. The Kings then waived guard Quincy Douby and veteran Sam Cassell, acquired on Tuesday from Boston, to make room for their new players.

Miller certainly has some years left but the aging star must stay away from injuries. With a healthy Brad Miller teaming up with John Salmons, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng (who was reportedly unhappy with the trade of Nocioni since they were close friends) and Kirk Heinrich makes the Bulls a team to reckon with.

The Bulls didn’t learn they had lost four teammates until the team bus pulled away from Chicago for the short trip to Milwaukee. While forward Luol Deng seemed dismayed by the trade of Nocioni, his good friend, other Bulls were excited by the move, with Ben Gordon saying it shows the franchise’s commitment to a playoff run.

“I like him a lot,” Gordon said. “He’s a great passer, has a great feel for the game, and I think he can make it a lot easier for guys.”
