The New York Knicks was involved in two trades that saw them trading off four players for two. The Knicks sent forward Malik Rose to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for center/forward Chris Wilcox. In the other trade, the Knicks traded forward Tim Thomas, guard Anthony Roberson, and center Jerome James to the Chicago Bulls for guard Larry Hughes.

Both trades favor New York. This also assures them of salary cap flexibility in the highly anticipated 2010 free agent market. In the meantime, the Knicks have added a slasher and great defender by acquiring Larry Hughes. They have also enforced their center/forward position with the addition of Chris Wilcox.

Larry Hughes is known for his talent on both ends of the floor, although he has been inconsistent lately. He is capable of hitting threes and slashing into the paint. He is also known for his man-to-man defense. The Knicks will now have a defensive stopper for high-scoring guards. He will be joining in the mix of high-flying Nate Robinson and point guard Chris Duhon. The Knicks’ frontcourt is now deeper.

Chris Wilcox is known for his play under the basket. Although he doesn’t really have a mid-range jumper in his arsenal, his moves in the paint and thunderous dunks make up for it. He will complement the styles of David Lee and Al Harrington on the court.

The New York Knicks’ newly acquired players will surely make a big difference in the Knicks’ lineup. They have made their team stronger in every aspect; defensively and offensively. What did they have to give up for it? Almost nothing. Tim Thomas was probably the only player they often used. These two trades will surely benefit New York.
