The wait for Joe Smith’s decision is finally over. He has decided to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This will be Joe’s second stint with the Cavaliers. He was shipped to Oklahoma City last season in order for the Cavaliers to acquire Mo Williams.

Joe Smith has reportedly signed a 1-year contract with the Cavaliers. The Cavs will look to Joe Smith for veteran experience and help underneath the basket. Ben Wallace recently broke a bone in his leg and will not be back in over a month. The Cavs will need someone to replace Ben’s role for the meantime. Hopefully, Joe Smith could somehow help the Cavs in that aspect. Joe Smith averaged around 8 points for the Cavaliers last season before he was traded. He was a big boost off the bench for the Cavaliers even with his somewhat old age.

Joe Smith will be able to sign with the Cavaliers because of his release from his contract with the Thunder. The Thunder and Joe Smith agreed to contract buyout before the deadline – waiver deadline for a player to be eligible to play in the playoffs. Joe wasn’t really playing as well back in Oklahoma City. Let’s see if he can help the Cavaliers with his return.

Joe Smith is in the twilight of his career. He is lucky to be taken in by Cleveland. But as far as effectiveness, all he has right now is experience. He is washed up!

Very lucky indeed! He was able to build a good relationship with the Cavaliers before he was traded about a year ago. I think he’ll still be able to help the Cavaliers more than just with his experience. They just lost Ben Wallace to injury. They’ll take anything that could help them in the “bigman” department.
