Third Player Enters MVP Race
At the beginning of the season, there were two players in the NBA who were sure to be in the running for the league’s MVP, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Lebron has been leading the MVP race by a dismal margin. What people didn’t expect was the emergence of another candidate who is able to keep up with the pace of the two mentioned earlier. This player is Dwyane Wade. Dwyane Wade is averaging 38.2 points, 11.4 assists,and 3.4 steals per game for the month of March. He has scored at least 30 points seven times in the last nine games, scoring at least 40 in five of them.
The only thing keeping Dwyane out of true contention of the MVP Race is his team’s record. They have a 34-29 win-loss record and hold only the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference. The Heat, if the playoffs were to start today, would not have home court advantage. In Dwyane’s scoring spree, the Heat only won 5 of their last 9 games.
Although the Heat haven’t really been winning, this is surely good news for them. Dwyane is returned this season from injuries that bothered him for the past few seasons. His performance, after they won the championship until last season, was held back because of these injuries. Prior to this season, he showed everyone that Dwyane Wade is coming back and will be ready to play hard. He led the USA team in scoring in their gold medal performance in the olympics.
Dwyane just needs a little more help from his teammates in order for them to win more games. The Miami Heat are generally made up of young players. They’re a team to watch out for in the coming seasons. But for now, Dwyane, with his individual performance, should be considered for MVP. He is playing on the same level as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. This year’s MVP Race will be a tight one.
