NBA Finals 2009: Does it End Tonight for the Orlando Magic?
It was quite a run but you have to admit that even if the Orlando Magic “Believe”, let us face it, they are simply overmatched. Coach Stan Van Gundy earns my respect with regards to determination and motivation but the fact remains that the Los Angeles Lakers are too hungry to be deprived of the 2009 NBA Championship.
For the Orlando Magic, the best they can do is win one more game at home and save themselves the embarrassment of giving in to the Lakers on their own turf. Also, it gives them a record of sorts for posting only their second win in an NBA finals in franchise history. The last time they were in the finals, they were swept by the Houston Rockets (4-0). The stars on that team were Shaquille O’ Neal, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott.
Making the finals alone is an achievement and winning the championship despite not being given the slimmest of chances is already an overkill. Remember that it was the either the Boston Celtics or the Cleveland Cavaliers who were favored to make it. That speaks highly of the team, making it this far.
The future can only get better for the Magic. They are a young team with budding stars. But this is just not their time. For Coach Stan Van Gundy, he has proven that he is a great coach and that the Miami Heat made a very big mistake in letting him go when he was still with them. Is Miami Heat president Pat Riley reading?
