Los Angeles Lakers Are the 2009 NBA Champions
Like you didn’t know, the Los Angeles Lakers finished off the Orlando Magic right at their own turf, 99-86, thus crowning themselves as the 2009 NBA Champions. The Orland Magic were in the thick of the fight only in the first quarter and once the Lakers made their run thanks to the heroics of Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher and of course the ball hog Kobe Bryant, the final score was the only thing left.
Dwight Howard was absent as usual, getting into foul trouble early and was never a factor. The only bright spots were Rashard Lewis and Magic rookie Courtney Lee who started out like a house on fire.
The Lakers avenged an embarrassing 2008 NBA Finals where they yielded to a hungry Boston Celtics last year. The Orlando Magic felt the pain of losing on their own turf, something the Lakers experienced last year.
Phil Jackson becomes the coach with the most NBA crowns, his 10th since the Chicago Bulls era. He surpasses the late Red Auerbach of the Boston Celtics who had nine to his name.
The Lakers are now a crown away from equaling the Boston Celtics for the most number of championship, something which should be there motivation for the succeeding years. It would not be surprising to see them surpassing that unless the Boston Celtics can regroup and be as potent as they were last year.
On that note, congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning the 2009 NBA championship. All eyes are now on the NBA draft which will be held on Thursday and of course, the free agent market which has big names waiting to be lured by teams.
Oh and by the way, the Finals MVP was Kobe Bryant. Ho Hum. Who cares?
