Vince Carter Traded to the Orlando Magic
Maybe it should have come a bit earlier. But then again, the NBA trade deadline would have lapsed by then. Vince Carter finds himself moving over to the NBA Eastern Conference Champions Orlando Magic in 5 man trade. The trade saw Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson of the New Jersey Nets move to the Magic for Orlando’s Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee, and Tony Battie. The trade is what you may call, experience for youth.
With the move, the Magic seem to have become formidable, missing a go-to-guy which Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu failed to do. With Vince Carter, they have a certified guy who will not be shy to take the big shots and of course provide another explosive dunker into the Magic lineup.
For New Jersey, it seems that they have almost cleaned out their star-studded roster in 2002 that included Jason Kidd (now with Dallas), Kenyon Martin(now with Denver) and Richard Jefferson (now with San Antonio). That team was swept by the Los Angeles Lakers which starred Shaquille O’ Neal and Kobe Bryant.
From the looks of it, the Nets are rebuilding their team, investing in youth. On the trade, the prized catch will have to be Courtney Lee who was severely underutilized during the last NBA finals.
Rafer Alston is another good catch but unless he learns to mature, he may as well follow the footsteps of former Houston Star and now journeyman Steve Francis.
Will Carter finally win an NBA ring? Well they have to content with the Cleveland Cavaliers first, the same team they eliminated in the NBA Eastern semi-finals en route to the 2009 NBA Finals.
