New Jersey Nets Going to Russian Tycoon?
It looks like Russia is continuing its invasion of the NBA. If reports are accurate, the New Jersey Nets will soon be owned by Russia’s richest man, Mikhail Prokhorov. Apparently Prokhorov announced that he has a deal to buy 80% of the NBA franchise. If the deal pushes through, principal owner Bruce Ratner will be given a big shot in the arm as far as the needed cash to go on with the development of the Atlantic Yards development.
It would make Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire and former amateur basketball player, the NBA’s first non-North American owner.
It makes you wonder if he would bat to get some Russian players into the Nets team. One bonafide player is Andrei Kirilenko of the Utah Jazz. But if ever he considers it, who could possibly be made as trade bait?
