Has Shaq Become Excess Baggage for The Cavs?

By Coach | November 1st, 2009

Shaq and Lebron James from the LA Times

It was a slow start but you have to admit that the Diesel, Shaquille O’ Neal is not his usual self. And it looks like his addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers roster has not shown the improvement that everyone is looking for, including myself. Shaq is what, 37? Well in due time, he will retire. But like any competitor, he wants to quit with one more trophy before calling it quits. But the problem is, would this attitude be geared only towards himself or for the Cavs?

The Cavs have lost their first couple of games and actually tasted their very first victory of the season against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves thanks to LeBron James’ heroics. Shaq was still struggling and continue to miss free throws and the rest of the gang were still getting used to the new system. Another win against the Charlotte Bobcats put them at 2-2 but you know that they are not as intimidating (yet) as they were last year.

Is Shaq over the hill? Some folks say he is. Father time is not on his side and he has been relegated to backup to LeBron and company. Will his stint workout? It doesn’t look pretty at this point. But hey, its still the start of the season so expect some improvements and developments along the way.
