The Answer is Retired

By Gamezone Insider | November 26th, 2009

Allen IversonAllen Iverson who last played for only three games with the Memphis Grizzlies has announced his retirement from active play to focus on his family and personal problems. After leaving the Philadelphia 76ers, Iverson found himself transferring to Denver, Detroit and then Memphis in the last couple of years. Best known for leading the 76ers to the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001, Iverson has the following credits to his NBA Career:

  1. Number 1 Pick in the 1996 NBA draft
  2. Rookie of the Year (1996-97 Season)
  3. Ten Time NBA All Star
  4. All Star MVP 2001 & 2005
  5. 2004 Member of the NBA Dream Team that placed 3rd

As you can see, the 34 year old native of Virginia never really won an NBA title, a privilege that he now shares with the likes of Charles Barkley and Karl Malone. While his retirement was somewhat expected, at 34, Iverson does still have the goods to be a force in the NBA. The only question now is which team will gamble on this All-star and of course the pay scale which has become an issue.

Memphis would have been a great fit but if he wants a title, it should be with a team that has the talent to do it. Teams like the Phoenix Suns or the Dallas Mavericks would be teams to consider if he wants playing time. But if he is only concerned about a NBA ring, he just has to suck it up and play a reserve role from teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, or even the Cleveland Cavaliers. So where to now AI?
