PBA Update: Ginebra wins over Talk N Text via Default

By Gamezone Insider | February 5th, 2010

Ginebra has officially tied their series against the Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals after the latter walked out of the game with 1 minute left in the first quarter. The walk-out was a sign of protest for a supposed questionable call on Ranidel DeOcampo on Ronald Tubid. Ginebra was ahead, 27-20 with 1 minute to go in the first quarter.

DeOcampo was called for a Flagrant Foul Penalty Two for planting an elbow on Ronald Tubid who reacted by a swing which was to seen to be a reaction for the hard foul. DeOcampo was ejected from the game and will be automatically suspended for the next game aside from a fine as per PBA rules.

Replays show that DeOcampo was clearly not going for the ball and that the elbow was intentional. Chot Reyes consulted team owner Manny Pangilinan first and then walked out. They were given the usual grace time to return but to no avail.

Talk ‘N Text stands to pay a fine of not less than P500,000 for the walkout although no official announcement has been made. This is the same amount that Ginebra (then known as Anejo Rum) paid for walking out in their game against Shell.
