Manila, Philippines – Treat Huey got a morale boost in his Asia Oceania Zone Group II tie campaign after landing in the top 50 of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) doubles ranking.

The Fil-American netter jumped from No. 51 to a career-high No. 47 this week following a semifinal finish with British partner Ken Skupski in the Montpellier 2012 in France a week ago.

Huey and Skupski lost to eventual champion Nicholas Mahut and Edoard Roger-Vasselin of France, 6-2, 6-2. They earlier dumped Oliver Rochus of Belgium and Igor Zelenay of Slovakia, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarters and Germany’s Philipp Marx and Canada’s Adil Shamasdin, 7-6 (5), 6-1, in the first round.

It was already Huey’s fourth tournament as early as this year. He started the year at No. 57 before slowly crawling up 10 notches with a runner-up finish in a Germany Challenger, second round at the Australian Open and first round in Auckland, New Zealand with different partners.

Huey currently competes with the Philippine Davis Cup team composed of Jeson Patrombon, Ruben Gonzales and Johnny Arcilla against Pacific Oceania, where he is expected to lead the squad now that Cecil Mamiit has been designated as non-playing team captain.

Huey, however, thinks nothing has changed despite the development.

“I don’t feel like it (as the leader of the team),“ Huey said. “Basically, it’s the same team the last two years. Cecil is still around and my teammates are doing pretty well in the tournaments especially Jeson.“

Despite his experience, Huey is nominated as the team’s No. 2 player due to his inferior singles ranking of No. 1085 compared to Patrombon’s No. 874 in the tie against Pacific Oceania. He plays Pacific Oceania’s No. 1 net ter Michael Leong at presstime, while Patrombon, nominated as PH team’s No. 1 player, competes with Cyril Jacobe in the opening round singles.

The Filipino Cuppers are gunning for an early 2-0 lead against the visiting team being held at the University of St. Anthony
